Here are my new running shoes. Yes they are minimalist and yes they are supposed to encourage barefoot style running (ie; mid/forefoot strike and not heel strike). I took them for a whirl today and found them ok actually. There was a little bit of calf muscle pain afterwards for a few hours but I think I am not too much of a heel striker naturally so perhaps there was not such a huge change in running style - but it took some concentration.
I did 5ks on them. It was harder up hills for sure and my feet got warm (but it was a very hot day). Bizarrely I went faster than ever before on that route but this was after a good 3 day rest so perhaps that had something to do with it.
I'll have to go easy on these puppies for a while and I intend to make a slow transition by alternating with my old adidas shoes. Keen to see if my form improves as a result of using them.
